These cables are wired one to one (also known as straight through wiring.)  Though they will work with standard home and office telephone wiring, they are normally used for special applications and phone systems that require a straight through one to one wiring.  There are just a few systems that actually require the straight through wiring style.

To be a little more technical, lines one and two (RJ11), lines one, two and three (RJ12) and lines one, two, three and four (RJ45) are the same on both a reverse and a straight through cable.  The difference is the tip and ring wires of each phone line are swapped between a reverse cable (most common standard cable) and a straight through cable.  Most systems don't care which wire is the tip wire and which is the ring wire.  The few that do, may require a straight through cable.
